cation. Their views on differently abled children and their mainstreaming
in general school are based on their experiences of the visits to special
schools. Their efforts to depict the challenges which face the inclusion of these
children reflect their sensitivity towards the issue. A discussion on the Right to
education, the Indian Government’s bold step towards creating an inclusive
society and a brief account of the present status of women’s education in
India are focused on the current progress in this direction.

For the last few decades, a plethora of interventions have been made by
the respective governments for enhancement of quality in education at all
levels. Unfortunately the annual status reports on education projects our
underachievement of the expected levels of learning especially at the primary
level. India with its demographic advantage of large young population has the
capability to create a task force to ensure sustainable development provided
it succeeds in injecting the desired quality in education at all levels. Pupil
teachers of Britto House centered their analysis on these aspects of quality
enhancement practices observed in India.

Our teachers’ enriched views centered on the chosen themes have added value
to our compendium. Dr. Swadha Prakash’s article on Inclusive Education is
an intensive exploration of various perspectives which advocate for the need
of an inclusive society; a society where diversity is fostered on the rich soil of
equality and justice. Ms. Sudha Khalkho has delved on means and modes of
value construct at the various levels of education and emphasized on the role
of stakeholders involved in the process. A brief account of the evolution of the
Department through these ten years has been presented in “Retrospectrum
of a Decade”. Glimpses of chronicled academic and co-academic activities of
the Department have also been presented. A documentary on the curricular
activities of the session can be viewed on the Department’s website.

Creation gives eternal bliss but it also demands hard work and perseverance.
Our team has strived hard with determination and diligence for publication of
the magazine. We hope that our efforts to enlighten and entertain our readers
will be appreciated.
