Editor’s Note

With great pleasure we are presenting before you our tenth
edition of annual souvenir, Eduxavier. This edition is special
as we have completed a decade in our pursuit of creative excellence.
To celebrate this feat we decided to expand our reach by publishing
the souvenir on our website www.bed.sxcran.org.in

“UN decade of education for sustainable development” has just
concluded in the year 2014. Hence we selected the central theme
of the magazine “Quality Education for Sustainable Development”.
The vast arena of the theme has comprehensively accommodated
the four dimensions of education, viz. Value based education,
Environmental concerns in education, Education for inclusive
society and Qualitative interventions in education. The four houses
have presented their ideas centered on these themes.

Values intrinsically associated with education have traversed across
time and space laying the principles of harmonious existence
of different elements of nature. Loyola house has reflected how
the values which have been held precious for ages do not guide
contemporary social behaviour and why is it still essential to hold
on to those values for a better future.

Xavier house has discussed a wide range of issues concerning
environmental degradation, be it the arsenic contamination of water
or the loss of forests due to mining and urbanization in Jharkhand.
They have further discussed the loss of biodiversity in Indian
subcontinent or the global issues like global warming and ozone
depletion to portray the imminent threats to our environment vis-à-
vis the need of Environmental education.

The edifice of a sustainably developed society firmly stands on the
pillars of equity and equality. Deeply ingrained in the constitutional
principles of India, these values provide the strength of unity and
integrity to the largest democracy of the world. Education which
promotes inclusiveness, inculcates respect for these values. Students
of Gonzaga House have explored various dimensions of inclusive
